Few-Body Effects in Cold Atoms and Limit Cycles

چکیده
Physical systems with a large scattering length have universal properties independent of the details of the interaction at short distances. Such systems can be realized in experiments with cold atoms close to a Feshbach resonance. They also occur in many other areas of physics such as nuclear and particle physics. The universal properties include a geometric spectrum of three-body bound states (so-called Efimov states) and log-periodic dependence of low-energy observables on the physical parameters of the system. This behavior is characteristic of a renormalization group limit cycle. We discuss universality in the threeand four-body sectors and give an overview of applications in cold atoms.

Effective Field Theory for Cold Atoms
Effective Field Theory (EFT) provides a powerful framework that exploits a separation of scales in physical systems to perform systematically improvable, model-independent calculations. Particularly interesting are few-body systems with short-range interactions and large two-body scattering length. Such systems display remarkable universal features. In systems with more than two particles, a th...

Waste tires, rubbers, plastic and steel materials, normally produced in every society, enter the environment and cause serious problems. These problems may, to some extent, be reduced by finding applications for them in engineering, for example, they can be used for geotechnical applications as backfill material and solving problems with low shear strength soils. Such materials may be subjected...

Controlling the interactions between ultracold atoms is crucial for quantum simulation and computation purposes. Highly excited Rydberg atoms are considered in this prospect for their strong and controllable interactions known in the dipole-dipole case to induce non-radiative energy transfers between atom pairs, similarly to fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET) in biological systems. H...

Cold Rydberg atoms subject to long-range dipole-dipole interactions represent a particularly interesting system for exploring few-body interactions and probing the transition from 2-body physics to the many-body regime. In this work we report the direct observation of a resonant 4-body Rydberg interaction. We exploit the occurrence of an accidental quasicoincidence of a 2-body and a 4-body reso...
